User Guide

Whalebone Wishlist is really easy to use, but you might not be aware of all the features. The following sections outline how to use our application. If you have any questions then please send them to android@whalebonestudios.com or visit the forums.

When you first launch the app you will see a splash screen (as shown below). If this is the first time that you have run the app, it is busy configuring itself on your Android device.

Once it's done, you will be taken to the "Main Menu" screen.

Main Menu

The "Main Menu" screen is the home screen for the app. It's the first place you are taken when you launch the app. If you tap on the genie lamp on the top left of every screen you will also be taken back to the "Main Menu" screen. If you ever want to go back to the previous screen of the app then use the "back" button located on your device. If you keep using the "back" button you will eventually be taken to the "Main Menu" screen. If you use the "back" button again, then you will be taken to the "Launcher" screen and you will have exited the Whalebone Wishlist app.

This screen has five choices. The first two allow you to view and manage your wishlist by either "Category" or "Item Type". These are explained below. The "Configure" button allows you to store configuration information. The "Help" button takes you to this very web page, and finally the "About" button provides some details about the app.

About

The "About" screen is shown below, and is really a credits screen for the app.

If you tap the links in blue, then it will then either launch the browser to take you to our website, or it will launch your email client to send us an email.

Configure

The "Configure" screen is shown below, and is used to store the configuration options for the app.

At the moment the only configuration option is to save your email address. This will be used as the key for people to view your wishlist from our server. This functionality is not yet available, but will be in the next version of the app.

My Categories

The "My Categories" screen is shown below, and it shows your wishlist divided into categories.

Export Data

The "Export Data" screen is shown below, and is used to export your wishlist to either email or the cloud. Exporting to the cloud is not enabled in this version of the app, but will be available when the app is next updated.

Whalebone Wishlist - Export Data

You have two options here. The first being to send your wishlist to friends and family in an email. To do this simply fill out the email address of your friend or family member, and tap on the "Send Email" button. This will launch the email app on your Android device. If you have more than one email app on your Android device then a chooser will open up asking you to choose which email app you would like to use. Once your email app has opened it will have a new email with the contents of your wishlist. You can then add more email addresses to the email before sending it.

The second option is to tap on the "Upload" button to upload your wishlist to the cloud. Note that this is not available in this version of the app, but will be available in the next version of the app. If you do try and tap on the "Upload" button it will pop up a message letting you know that this is not availble.

The above two images show the "Edit Item" screen. The first screen shows the original screen, the second shows the same screen after you tap the "Change Date" button.

If you tap on the the drop-down for the "Item Category" or "Item Type" it will open up a list screen where you can choose from a list of items. If you change your mind you can use the "Back" button of your Android device.

If you tap on the "Change URL" button it will take you to the "Change Web Site" screen which is described below.

If you tap on "Save" then any change you have made will be saved. If you tap on the "I Own This" (lucky you) then this will mark this item as now being owned and it will be removed from your wishlist. This is similar to deleting the item, except that the details are still stored and could be used to suggest other items that you might like. This functionality is not in the app yet, and might not be for some time.

Change Web Site

The "Change Web Site" screen is shown below, and it shows the current web site that you have associated with your item.

Whalebone Wishlist - Change Web Site

This is a full web browser, so you are able to navigate around web sites until you find the exact web page which describes your item. By providing a web site you can be sure that you will receive the gift that you want. You can enter the web site in the "Website:" box, and then tap on "Go" to go to the web site, and from there you can navigate to the page you want through the web site. The "< Back" and "Forward >" buttons move you backwards and forwards through your web browsing history. When you tap on the "Save" button this will save this web page to your item details. The "Clear" button removes whatever is in the "Website:" box.

If you change your mind and don't want to change the web site, you can go back to your item details by using the "Back" button on your Android device.

So that's about it, really. Quite simple. If you have any questions then please send them to android@whalebonestudios.com or visit the forums.
